Croatian Times: Croatian party opposed to EU membership
A patriotic political party in Croatia is offering 10,000 kunas or 1,376 Euros to those who find news articles about Croatian residents opposed to Croatian EU membership.
"Only Croatia – Movement for Croatia" (Jedino Hrvatska – Pokret za Hrvatsku), established in 2007, is strongly against Croatian membership of NATO and, especially, the European Union.
The Izravno.com web site has reported that one of the party’s leaders, Marjan Bosnjak, believes the Croatian media have been writing only about people who support Croatian accession to the European Union and not about those opposed to it.
He has offered 10,000 kunas to anyone who finds an article about people opposed to EU accession in Croatian dailies during the period between 1 December 2008 and 31 January 2010. Any article must say why the person in question is against EU accession.
Bosnjak said Eurobarometer EU research published in October 2009 showed that only 24 per cent of Croats supported Croatian EU accession and 37 per cent were against it.
Bosnjak wants to show that there has been a lack of democratic discussion about the issue.
Those who find articles should sent them to the address "Odvjetnicki ured Zeljka Olujica, Trg Marka Marulica 2, 10 000 Zagreb" by 26 March.
The senders of the first ten articles to arrive will each receive 500 kunas (69 Euros), and the total award fund has 10,000 kunas.
